KUCHING: Several areas in Sarawak are expected to experience flooding between December 19 and 22 following continuous heavy rainfall, according to a warning issued by the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN).
In a statement recently, PRABN which is under the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia, said that the affected areas include divisions of Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Mukah.
“In Kuching division, the affected areas will be in Kuching, Bau, and Lundu while Serian division (Serian and Siburan), Samarahan division (Samarahan, Asajaya, and Simunjan), Sri Aman division (Lubok Antu and Sri Aman), Betong division (Betong and Saratok), Sarikei division (Julau, Meradong, Pakan, and Sarikei) Sibu division (Selangau and Sibu) and Mukah division (Daro and Matu),”PRABN said.
The warning, issued at 7 pm last Tuesday, follows forecasts from the Malaysian Meteorological Department indicating persistent heavy rainfall that could trigger floods in these divisions.
PRABN urged residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and adhere to directiv6es from local authorities and disaster response agencies.
“The warning highlights potential early or delayed flooding due to heavy rainfall,”it added.
