KUCHING: A 28-year-old man with multiple past drug-related offences was arrested after testing positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine during an operation conducted by police here on Thursday.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect was apprehended by a team from the Tabuan Jaya Police Station at Jalan Canna at 2:30 pm that day.
“Upon inspection, police found several packets containing different types of drugs believed to be methamphetamine (12.00g), ketamine (0.40g), ganja (2.25g), an Erimin 5 pill (0.25g), and two bottles containing liquid suspected to be ganja measuring 10ml and 2ml respectively,” he said in a statement.
The total value of the drugs seized is estimated at RM1,750.
Alexson added that background checks revealed the suspect has 11 previous criminal records related to drugs, four under Section 39A(1), one under Section 12(2), and six under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The suspect has been remanded for four days, from Nov 8 to 11, to assist in the investigation under Section 39A(1) of the same Act, which carries a penalty of two to five years in prison and between three and nine strokes of the cane upon conviction.
Alexson said the success was the result of ongoing intelligence work and cooperation from the public, stressing that the police would not compromise with any individuals involved in drug-related activities.
