MERADONG: A local man was killed after his motorcycle veered out of control and collided head-on with a pickup truck at Mile 8, Jalan Kelupu (Sungai Gemuan) here yesterday (July 19).
The victim, identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Lukman Salleh from Rumah Rabaie, Kampung Darul Falah in Bintangor, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Bintangor Health Clinic.
Meradong police said the accident, which happened at around 2 pm, involved a Modenas motorcycle ridden by the victim and a Toyota Hilux driven by a 35-year-old man.
The Hilux driver and his two passengers, aged 35 and 12, escaped unhurt.
“Preliminary investigations found that the victim was travelling from Sibu towards Bintangor when he allegedly lost control of his motorcycle before veering into the opposite lane.
“The Hilux, which was travelling from Bintangor towards Sibu, was unable to avoid the collision and struck the front of the motorcycle,” police said.
The victim’s body was taken to Sarikei Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Road users have been advised to drive and ride responsibly, obey speed limits and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy while on the road to prevent similar tragedies.
