KANOWIT: Sarawak’s RM1-billion school rehabilitation scheme continued to show steady progress, with only two schools under the first phase yet to be completed.

Education, Innovation and Talent Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, said 39 schools listed under Phase One had been fully completed and handed over for use.

Meanwhile, another 35 schools under Phase Two were also completed and already operational.

“Today’s visit was intended to review current progress under the RM1-billion scheme introduced by the Premier to accelerate repairs for dilapidated schools across the state.

“The state repaid the loan in advance, allowing the funds to be utilised immediately to upgrade school facilities,” he said when visiting Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Tada here on Wednesday.

Dr Annuar said that overall progress had been encouraging despite logistical challenges, particularly for projects located in remote interior areas with difficult access.

He said Phase Three had also begun, with several projects already moving on-site while the remaining packages were undergoing planning before finalisation.

Dr Annuar acknowledged minor delays but said they were mainly due to construction constraints in rural locations, noting that progress remained satisfactory.

During the visit, he inspected SK Nanga Tada, one of the Phase One schools that received RM12.3 million under the scheme.

The school now had a new academic block housing 12 classrooms and a dormitory capable of accommodating up to 100 pupils.

He said SK Nanga Tada would also receive additional facilities under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

With more than 200 pupils enrolled, he said the school was now far more conducive and aligned with the state’s commitment to providing safe and comfortable learning environments.
