KAPIT: The redevelopment of SK Kampong Baru under Sarawak’s RM1 billion dilapidated schools programme has been completed, providing modern learning facilities for 260 pupils and 43 teachers.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg visited the school to inspect the completed project, which was carried out under the Proposed Redevelopment of Dilapidated Schools in Sarawak using the RM1 billion allocation (Phase 1) on Sunday.

The project, which commenced in 2021 and was completed in November 2025, involved a total investment of RM12.84 million.

Upon arrival, Abang Johari was welcomed by Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) director Datuk Dr Cassidy Morris, who briefed the Premier on the project’s development scope, implementation and its impact on the school community and surrounding area.

The redevelopment works included the construction of a four-storey academic block and a four-storey administration block complete with mechanical and electrical systems.

External works carried out under the project included the construction of retaining walls, reinforced concrete pedestrian walkways, drainage systems and security fencing.

The new facilities replace ageing and deteriorated buildings that were no longer suitable for use, providing a safer, more modern and conducive learning environment for students, teachers and staff.

During the visit, Abang Johari also toured the completed facilities and expressed appreciation to all parties involved in ensuring the successful completion of the project, particularly in efforts to enhance education standards in rural areas.

The project reflects the continued commitment of both the Sarawak and federal governments to strengthening educational infrastructure and ensuring students across the state have access to quality, safe and contemporary learning facilities.
