LUNDU: Rural infrastructure and housing upgrades worth RM360,000 were delivered in Opar on Thursday (Apr 16), improving farm road access and repairing homes for low-income residents in several villages.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said the projects reflected the government’s continued focus on strengthening rural infrastructure that directly benefits local communities.

“The government continues to prioritise rural development, especially in terms of basic infrastructure that has a direct impact on the people,” he said during the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) site handover ceremony for the Opar constituency.

Two farm road upgrading projects worth RM330,000 were completed under the initiative, involving the Engkabang Batu farm road in Kampung Biawak Phase 2 valued at RM180,000 and Jalan Samanar in Kampung Pasir Tengah valued at RM150,000.

Billy said such infrastructure remained essential in facilitating daily movement and supporting agricultural activities among rural residents.

Separately, he also handed over house repair assistance under the Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Programme (PPRMS) to two recipients in Kampung Temaga Melayu.

The two recipients, Awang Naseruddin Awang Sipudin and Muriana Sabian, each received RM15,000 for roof replacement works, bringing the total allocation under the initiative to RM30,000.

He said the implementation of PPRMS reflected the government’s ongoing commitment to improving living conditions for rural households through safer and more comfortable housing.

Billy added that development projects must be carefully planned and implemented with integrity to ensure public funds were utilised effectively for the benefit of the people.
