RM5 million have been approved for the upgrading work of the drainage system in Kampung Pinang Jawa.
Tupong State Assemblyman, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said that the drainage system had to be upgraded to prevent flash floods in the area.
“This allocation is important for the 10,000 residents of Kampung Pinang Jawa who have been haunted by flash floods for many years,” Fazzruddin told a press conference after his Question & Answer (Q&A) session during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting in Kuching yesterday.
“According to the information provided from the Ministry of Local Government, the tender of the project will be released in July.
During the Q&A session, Assistant Minister of Local Government, Datu Dr. Penguang Manggil said that the government had approved an allocation for the Urban Drainage Programme to improve the drainage and migitate flood in affected areas.
“In addition to this, the ministry is currently in the process of finalising the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) on drain cleaning for all local authorities which will provide proper guidelines to clean and maintain drains so that floods can be migitated in the long run,” he said.
