KUCHING: The construction of the access road to the southern area of Kuching International Airport (KIA) is expected to begin next year.
The state Public Works Department (JKR) said in response to a statement by the state Democratic Action Party (DAP) calling the department to speed up the project.
“This project is a new one that has been approved in third Rolling Plan 3, under the 11th Malaysia Plan.
“A new road alignment has been suggested after taking into the consideration of the surroundings,” the department said in a statement.
According to JKR Sarawak, the site for the new road alignment has been approved by the State Planning Authority (SPA) and subsequently approved by the federal Ministry of Works in May 2019.
“This new road alignment will include two sections. The first section is to connect Stutong area with Muara Tuang area as to ease the
traffic congestion between Kuching and Samarahan.
“It will be built with JKR U5 Standard with a length of about 6.5KM. In this section, two concrete bridges will be constructed across the Sungai Stampin and the Sungai Kuap,” it said.
As for the second section, it is to connect the first section with the Sungai Tapang area to ease traffic congestion between Kuching and Sungai Tapang, Mile 7 and Kota Sentosa.
