KUCHING: Strong teamwork, professionalism and a shared sense of purpose among civil servants were the key factors behind the success of Civil Service Day 2025 celebrations in Sarawak, said State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki.

He said the appreciation ceremony was organised to recognise and thank all those who had worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the event was carried out smoothly and successfully.

“I personally observed the preparations over several months and witnessed the hard work and commitment shown at every level.

“Large-scale events like this can only succeed when everyone works together as one team,” he said in his speech at the Civil Service Day 2025 Appreciation Ceremony held here on Monday (Dec 15).

Abu Bakar said he was impressed by the willingness of officers and committees to adapt to last-minute changes, describing it as a clear reflection of professionalism and maturity within the civil service.

He added that discussions with senior federal leaders ahead of the event revealed admiration for the discipline, coordination and unity demonstrated by Sarawak’s civil servants, both at the state and federal levels.

“One aspect that stood out was our uniformity in attire, which symbolised unity, shared vision and common goals, regardless of departmental differences. This is something rarely seen elsewhere and reflects our strength in Sarawak,” he said.

Abu Bakar also congratulated recipients of awards presented during Civil Service Day, noting that the close scores among winners reflected the high overall performance of departments and agencies.

“In truth, everyone is a winner. Whether you received first place or not, what matters is the significant contribution and impact you have made in serving the people and Sarawak,” he said.

He paid special tribute to civil servants serving in rural and remote areas, acknowledging the sacrifices they make by travelling through rivers, forests and challenging terrain to deliver services to the rakyat.

“They work without seeking popularity, often leaving behind their families and personal comfort. These are the unsung heroes of our public service,” he said.

Looking ahead to 2026, Abu Bakar urged civil servants not to become complacent despite achievements in 2025, stressing the need for continuous improvement in a rapidly changing environment.

“What was relevant yesterday may not be sufficient tomorrow. We must always look for ways to improve our services and never be easily satisfied with success,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to the Sarawak leadership for the special financial assistance granted to civil servants, saying it reflected recognition of their dedication and service.
