KUCHING: Sarawak Shell Berhad E6 Field Development Project Team together with Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation (BDEWC) launched a campaign for Road Safety within the Kampung Sejingkat area.
The campaign held on the 11 May is organised in conjunction with Shell Malaysia Safety Day for 2017, with the theme “We Care” amongst others.
The aim of this collaboration was to spread and raise the awareness of road safety to users of KampungSejingkat, a neighbouring village to BDEWC.
The collaboration this year also witnessed the participation of Shell Timur Sdn. Bhd. a joint venture company with the State Governments of Sarawak and Sabah as safety partners for the event.
Other then the road safety campaign, employees of Shell and BDEWC also took the opportunity to donate safety apparatus such as fire alarms, fire blankets and emergency exit signage for the nearby KampungSejingkat Kindergarten. A demonstration on the correct us of a fire extinguisher was also carried out as part of the day’s activity.
Kuching City Hall North also installed two sets of road signage leading to the village at the request of BDEWC and Shell to improve the road condition.
Puan Salmiah Abdullah, BDEWC’s corporate communications senior manager, commended Shell for their efforts and indicated that today’s event was historical in that, Shell pioneered their caring attitude towards its surrounding neighbours and she hopes that other oil and gas companies would emulate such good practice.
She went on to say that it was no surprise that the late Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Hj. Adenan Satem mentioned during the E6 contract signing ceremony that Shell is indeed the “State no. 1 corporate citizen.”
Jonathan Jolly, Shell Malaysia’s senior manager for government relations and Ketua Kampung Sejingkat were present to witness the event.
Late last year, BDEWC was awarded an offshore platform fabrication contract by Sarawak Shell Berhad, which will see the platform being deployed at the E6 field and developed as an integrated oil and gas facility offshore Sarawak.
