Fixed deposits (FDs) from the Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H) programme have contributed RM56.7 million to local banks.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said that as of March 2024, a total of 146 individuals participated in the programme, placing FDs amounting to RM28.8 million in Sarawak’s banks.

“The programme allows high-value foreign visitors who meet certain criteria to stay in Sarawak with multiple entry visas,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (May 14).

He added that his ministry would continue to enhance requirements and regulations through cabinet approval to protect Sarawak’s interests while attracting high-value tourists.

“Since the programme’s approval in 2007, there have been 2,462 participants who have chosen Sarawak.

“The number of participants increased from 441 in 2022 to 542 in 2023, showing a growth of 22.9 per cent.

“China has the most participants with 340, followed by the United Kingdom with 335. Other countries include Taiwan (246), Hong Kong (240), the United States of America (184), Singapore (182), South Korea (157), Australia (114), Japan (114), and Indonesia (113),” he added.
