KANOWIT: A local man has been reported missing after attempting to swim across a river near Rumah Manggin, Nanga Buan, Ngemah, this afternoon (Jan 13).
The victim, identified as Mohamad Hamizan Reduan, was reportedly on his way back to his rental house for lunch, located on the opposite side of the river.
According to the complainant, Hamizan entered the river during high tide and disappeared when he reached the middle of the waterway.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a distress call at 1.50 pm and dispatched firefighters from the Kanowit station to the scene, about 45km away.
The team arrived at 2.45 pm and immediately launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation.
As of now, there have been no updates on Hamizan’s whereabouts, and the search is ongoing.
