Sarawak and Indonesia scout associations deepen ties

KUCHING: The Scout Association of Malaysia Sarawak Branch and Indonesian’s Scout Movement (Gerakan Pramuka Indonesia) are looking to strengthen cross-border cooperation following a goodwill visit to advance youth development and regional brotherhood.

Sarawak Scout Council vice president Jumaat Ibrahim said the goodwill visit by a delegation of Pramuka commissioners and leaders from Sambas marked an important step in deepening ties between the two scouting organisations, which share common cultural roots and heritage.

In a statement issued by the association yesterday (July 7), he said that both organisations have strong potential to organise joint programmes in the future to strengthen friendship, exchange experiences, and enhance youth development in both regions.

Jumaat expressed hope that the longstanding relationship between the two organisations would continue to flourish for the mutual benefit and advancement of scouting in both Malaysia and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Sambas Pramuka Delegation Samarudin Abed Sutih, welcomed the proposal and affirmed Pramuka Sambas’ readiness to collaborate with the Sarawak Scouts in future joint activities.

For the record, the delegation of Pramuka commissioners and leaders from Sambas, who undertook a goodwill tour to Kuching, Bandar Seri Begawan, and Kota Kinabalu.

During their stay, they were honoured at two events namely a welcoming reception at the Sarawak Scout Headquarters and a fellowship dinner held in the city’s cafe.
