KUCHING: Sarawak’s young diving talents continued to shine on home soil as 12-year-old Awang Sharzan Zaqwan clinched gold in the Boys 3m Springboard Group C event at the 61st MILO/PRAM MIAG Diving Championships 2026 today (May 8).
Competing at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, the young Sarawak diver delivered a composed and technically solid performance to top the field with 294.25 points, earning the host state its second gold medal of the competition.
Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur’s Cayden Lin Zi Herng finished second with 274.10 points, while fellow Sarawak diver Aaryan Ross Suhardris completed the podium in third with 273.55 points.
Another Sarawak diver, Muhd Hijri Rayyan, also impressed with a fourth-place finish on 273.45 points, underlining the host contingent’s depth in the junior category.
Earlier in the day, Dayang Nursharzyra Awang Nasaruddin delivered Sarawak’s first gold medal after winning the women’s 1m springboard open title with 228.80 points.
The reigning SUKMA 2024 champion produced a consistent display across five dives to finish ahead of Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur’s Ong Ker Ying and Singapore’s Ashlee Tan Yi Xuan.
Sarawak’s strong start highlighted the state’s reputation as one of Malaysia’s leading diving powerhouses, with both senior and junior athletes delivering in front of the home crowd.
The three-day championship, held from May 8 to 10, features 120 divers from across Malaysia as well as international participants from Singapore and Chinese Taipei.
