KUCHING: The Sarawak government aims to create 195,000 jobs through its Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 initiative.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Sarawak’s income would also increase to RM282bil in 2030 from RM136bil in 2019.

“The Sarawak government is not only very serious about the development of human capital but also attracting graduates to help create job opportunities for other graduates, especially in the field of entrepreneurship.”

Awang Tengah said this at the opening ceremony of the Sarawak Malay Graduates Convention (KGMS) organised by Ikatan Graduan Melayu Sarawak (IGMS) here on Yesterday (Aug 24).

He called on Malay graduates to seize the opportunities given by the state government, especially in the pursuit of realising Sarawak’s aspirations in 2030.

He said under PCDS 2030, many strategies in various fields had been outlined to rebuild economic, social and environmental sustainability based on three main points.

“Graduates are now no longer just looking for a salaried job but are also trying to get involved in economic activities, creating job opportunities for others to improve socioeconomic wellbeing and to help develop the state.”

Awang Tengah explained that the Sarawak government-through various agencies-had provided training infrastructure to help graduates improve their skills.

“These agencies are training our graduates to compete in the job market.

“In addition, we can see that the entrepreneurial aspect of the graduates can be strengthened with the Go Digital Sarawak 2022 programme.”

Awang Tengah hoped that IGMS would continue to assist the Sarawak government to develop human capital and ensure the marketability of graduates.

“KGMS is one of the most effective platforms for bringing leaders and graduates closer and to provide opportunities for graduates from various levels to communicate directly with their leaders.”
