MUNICH: Sarawak is strengthening its digital transformation agenda through closer cooperation with the City of Munich in Germany, following high-level discussions focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and smart city development aimed at improving public service delivery and urban livability.
The engagement was led by Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, who met with Munich Deputy Lord Mayor, Mona Fuchs, to exchange views on the role of emerging technologies in modern governance.
Both sides shared experiences on their respective digitalisation efforts, particularly in applying AI and data-driven solutions to enhance efficiency, accessibility, and citizen-centric public services.
Munich outlined its approach to smart city development, which is built on a collaborative ecosystem involving government agencies, industry stakeholders, research institutions, and the wider community.
Fuchs noted that Munich’s innovation model depends on strong cross-sector cooperation, stressing that sustainable technological progress is achieved through shared vision and coordinated action.
She also highlighted Munich’s recognition as Germany’s Smart City for three consecutive years, reflecting its continued investment in digital governance.
The sharing session also provided an opportunity for Sarawak delegation to highlight Sarawak’s own digitalisation agenda, including initiatives to harness emerging technologies, strengthen digital infrastructure, and promote the adoption of AI across various sectors.
The engagement reflects Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international collaboration in digital transformation, AI development, and smart city initiatives.
