KUCHING: It is good that the Sarawak goverment is serious about food production and agriculture, says Datuk Peter Minos.
“Sarawak has the land and the labour, and it is a matter of getting the capital and expertise,” opined the political commentator.
“Of course, with government guidance and private sector support, yes we can.”
He explained that given the current world situation, including the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and inflation, “it is high time to begin food production as well.”
“We import much of our rice and other food products in the millions every year.
“In fact, Malaysia is highly dependent on food import and if there is war or trouble in food-producing countries, we will also be in very big trouble.”
He stated that once Malaysia is able to produce its own food, “we could export it to other countries as well and thus, foreign exchange could be gained.”
“If countries such as Vietnam and Thailand can do it, then why can’t we? It would be a beneficial thing for our economy as well.”
