KUCHING: Parents will know by Saturday (Sept 5) whether the ongoing haze will affect school operations in Sarawak when classes resume on Monday (Sept 7).
The Sarawak Education Department said an announcement on the method of school operations would be made before 2pm on Saturday.
“The Ministry of Education and Sarawak Education Department always give priority to the safety, health and wellbeing of students and the entire school community following the haze situation,” it said in a notice shared on its official social media platform.
While awaiting the decision, parents and guardians, students and school staff have been advised to closely follow official announcements and instructions issued by the ministry and department.
They were also urged to monitor their health and that of their children, particularly those with respiratory-related health conditions.
“Reduce outdoor activities and exposure to the haze if air quality conditions continue to deteriorate. Ensure that children’s health and safety needs continue to be given attention,” it said.
The department also reminded the public against spreading or believing unverified information on school operations, which could cause unnecessary confusion and concern.
“In a situation like this, calmness, vigilance and cooperation from all parties are greatly needed. There is no need to make any assumptions.
“Wait for the official announcement and follow the instructions issued,” it advised.
The department expressed hope that haze conditions would gradually improve, reiterating that safety and health remained the priority.
