KUCHING: Sarawak continues to solidify its position as a premier destination for both leisure and medical tourism by participating in ASTINDO Travel Fair 2025 and Malaysia Healthcare Expo (MHX) 2025, two of Indonesia’s most significant travel and healthcare exhibitions held concurrently from Feb 20 to 23.
With Indonesia ranked among Sarawak’s top three visitor markets, the state recorded 653,883 visitor arrivals from Indonesia in 2024, marking a 24 per cent increase from 2023.
“Looking ahead, Sarawak is targeting 784,700 Indonesian arrivals in 2025, driven by aggressive promotions, enhanced connectivity, and strategic partnerships,” according to a press release by Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) yesterday (Feb 26).
Held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), BSD City, Tangerang, ASTINDO Travel Fair is one of Indonesia’s most prominent travel expos, bringing together industry players to promote destinations and travel packages.
“For the third consecutive year, the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is participating in ASTINDO to showcase the state’s cultural, adventure, and nature-based tourism to Indonesian travelers.”
As part of STB’s commitment to expanding its market reach and fostering strong partnerships with Indonesian travel agents and ASTINDO members.
Representing Sarawak at ASTINDO 2025 are KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital, Borneo Medical Centre Kuching, Rimba Hartawan (Roxy Hotel) and Jinhold Hotel & Serviced Apartment.
“This initiative aligns with Sarawak’s broader goal of deepening engagement with key tourism stakeholders, increasing market penetration, and ensuring the state remains a top destination for Indonesian travelers.
“Alongside leisure tourism, Sarawak is also strengthening its position as a key healthcare tourism destination for Indonesians seeking high-quality, affordable medical treatments.
“MHX 2025, organised by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) at Terra Atrium, Central Park Mall, Jakarta, serves as a dedicated platform to showcase Malaysia’s world-class medical services.
“This marks the fourth consecutive year STB is participating in MHX Jakarta, featuring Normah Medical Specialist Centre and Timberland Medical Centre.
“These institutions offer exclusive promotional packages catering to the increasing demand for specialized medical services from Indonesian patients.
“With daily direct flights from Jakarta to Kuching via AirAsia, accessing Sarawak’s top-tier healthcare services is now easier than ever,” the statement added.
