KUCHING: Sarikei MP Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii recently had a working visit to several longhouse communities in the Sarikei area to assess residents’ needs and deliver development assistance.

A highlight of the visit was the distribution of 158 door units under the ‘Projek Pintu’, benefitting the longhouses involved.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort to improve the living standards of rural communities across the constituency.

Several infrastructure projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) were also showcased during the visit.

These included concreting works at the front of Rumah Panjang Ngelai Ampawi, an upgrade of the drainage system at Rumah Pangang Bajut Pak to resolve longstanding drainage issues and a comprehensive package of works at Rumah Panjang Clement Asuh — covering the relocation of electricity poles, construction of a stone retaining wall at the front of the longhouse and the laying of a premix road to improve accessibility for residents.

Huang emphasised the significance of such projects for the rural population.

“Infrastructure development such as roads, drainage systems, and longhouse improvements are very important in ensuring that longhouse residents can enjoy a more comfortable and safe life,” he said.

Tuai Rumah (TR) Clement Asuh, on behalf of the longhouse community, conveyed heartfelt gratitude to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for his continued concern and dedication to rural development, particularly for longhouse communities across the state.
