KUCHING: Singapore’s prestigious At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy is expanding its ‘Scholarship Brew’ to Kuching following its succesful outcome in Johor Bahru in February this year.

The Scholarship Brew is a gateway for Malaysian youth looking to gain world-class culinary education and real-world experience.

Students in the academy’s “earn-while-you-learn” programme can earn between SGD1,200 to SGD1,600 per month (approximately MYR4,200-MYR5,600), and between SGD1,600-SGD2,000 (MYR5,280-MYR6,600) during their paid diploma and
degree internships respectively in Singapore.

Director of Student Recruitment at At-Sunrice, Suman Subbian, said the scholarship also targets middle-income families, offering them the opportunity to benefit from merit-based financial aid.

“Coupled with tests, physical tests, and the interview, we will be giving up to 100 per cent of first semester fee, which is we calculate as two semesters.

“So first semester fee we want to give as a full scholarship, 100 per cent.

“We have seven scholarships available per country, two times in a year,” said Suman during a press conference on the scholarship held at a hotel here today.

The academy has also expanded its reach to China, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, Suman added.

At Sunrice, Suman said the institution offers dual diplomas in Culinary Arts or pastry and bakery paired with Food Entrepreneurship or Culinary Wellness; an option to pursue a BA (Hons) in Business Studies with Entrepreneurship from the University of West London; a fast-tracked 2.5-year programme, including up to 18 months of industry attachment; or a curriculum that blends Asian and Western cuisines, with a focus on herbs, spices and culinary innovation.

The institution combines skill-based, knowledge-based, and work-integrated learning, equipping graduates to either continue their careers in the food and beverage industry or use Singapore as a springboard for global opportunities.

Suman said the academy has contributed 400 graduates to Singapore’s hospitality and F&B sectors, out of an estimated 15,000 employment opportunities available in the country.
