SIMUNJAN: A total of 2,500 indigenous tree seedlings were planted at the Sabal Forest Reserve today (May 23) through a tree-planting programme jointly organised by Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) and Forest Department Sarawak (FDS).
The programme involved 170 participants comprising staff from SEB’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE), SEB Power and Strategy and Corporate Development divisions, alongside personnel from the FDS and members of the local community.
Among the high-value indigenous species planted were Meranti, Kapur, Selangan, Keruing and Engkabang.
The initiative marked the third collaborative programme between SEB and the FDS at the Sabal Forest Reserve this year under the utility company’s Corporate-Level Integrated 10-Year Tree-Planting, Protection and Habitat Restoration Campaign (2021-2030).
With the latest planting activity, both organisations have successfully planted nearly 5,000 high-value indigenous tree seedlings at the reserve this year as part of ongoing forest restoration and biodiversity conservation efforts in the state.
The long-term initiative reflects SEB’s continued commitment towards environmental sustainability and ecosystem restoration, while supporting the implementation of the Greening Sarawak Campaign.
Apart from rehabilitating degraded forest areas, the programme also aimed to strengthen environmental awareness and encourage greater participation among corporate organisations, government agencies and local communities in conservation efforts.
The continued collaboration between both organisations highlights a shared commitment towards long-term landscape restoration efforts in Sarawak.
