KUCHING: Selangor FC booked their place in the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup final after defeating Vietnam’s Nam Dinh FC 2-0 in the semi-final second leg tonight (May 13).
Brazilian striker Chrigor Moraes once again proved decisive, netting a brace to hand the Red Giants a commanding 4-1 aggregate victory in front of a packed Thiên Trường Stadium.
After scoring twice in the first leg, Moraes continued his red-hot form by opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the 40th minute before sealing the win deep into stoppage time with his fifth goal of the tournament.
The Red Giants weathered early pressure from the Vietnamese side, with goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel producing key saves as Kim Pan-gon’s men gradually settled into the contest.
The breakthrough came just before half-time after a VAR review ruled that Mohammad Majed Jamil Abualnadi had been fouled inside the box, allowing Moraes to calmly bury the spot kick.
Nam Dinh pushed aggressively for a response after the restart and even found the net through Lam Ti Phong, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside following another VAR review.
But as the hosts committed bodies forward late on, Selangor struck again on the counter.
Chrigor latched onto a long ball from Zikri Khalili before coolly slotting past goalkeeper Nguyen Manh Tran to send the Malaysian club into the final in style.
Making their Shopee Cup debut, Selangor will now face either Buriram United FC or Johor Darul Ta’zim FC in the two-legged final later this month.
