KUCHING: A Maxim e-hailing driver stepped up in a critical moment and became a lifesaver for an elderly woman who urgently needed to be transported to the hospital in Miri.
When the woman suddenly became unwell, her family faced an overwhelming challenge.
With private ambulances unavailable and other drivers refusing the ride, it was the quick actions of the Maxim driver that saved her life.
Christly, the daughter of the elderly woman, shared the touching story on her Facebook, expressing her gratitude.
“My elderly mother suddenly felt unwell. She was about to faint, her face turned pale, and her eyes rolled back; it was a very critical situation. At that moment, only my OKU brother and I were at home. I immediately called nearby drivers, but none answered, and some even refused to take us,”said Christly.
“Private ambulances wouldn’t take her either because most of them were busy and packed. I took a chance and requested a large vehicle via the MAXIM app. The driver arrived in three minutes. Without saying a word, he helped us carry my mother into the car,”she said.
“In the car, the situation became intense, and we focused on arriving there as soon as possible. Upon arriving at the emergency department of the hospital, he patiently waited for the medical staff to carry my mother out of the vehicle,
“When it came time to pay, he did not overcharge. I saw the love and patience in his actions, and I was deeply touched. I chose to give him extra. Compassionate drivers are hard to come by,”she said.
“This morning, you helped save my mother’s life. You are her lifesaver! There’s no way I can repay you enough, but I hope to honour you here and let you be a role model for more drivers,”she said.
Chong, the Maxim partner-driver who took the order, recounted the events from his perspective.
“This order was my fourth one for the day. I saw a trip that was near my last drop-off point, so I decided to take it and drove to the pick-up location within three minutes,”he said.
“It has been a privilege for me to be able to save a life and help someone’s mother. The daughter thanked me many times, which showed me that I did a great job.
“This situation inspired me, and I realised that being an e-hailing partner-driver is not only about work, it is also about trust, honesty, and giving hope to the passengers,”he said.
Maxim e-hailing’s management team recognised Chong’s remarkable act of compassion by awarding him an official certificate, expressing their deep appreciation for his courage and selflessness.
