MIRI: The RM1.6-million project to build a parking area, access roads, and entry junctions at SMK Pujut and SK Senadin here is progressing well despite a slight delay.
Transport Minister and Senadin Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, said the project is currently about four per cent behind schedule due to soil stabilisation works that must be completed before the road surfacing phase can begin.
“The project is slightly delayed, about four per cent behind schedule, but the contractor is confident they can catch up.
“They have to wait for the soil filling and stabilisation works to be completed before continuing with the next phase. Next week, the stone laying works will begin,” he told reporters during a site visit today.
The project commenced on February 24 this year and is expected to be completed by February 2026.
It is funded under the Sarawak Government’s Projek Rakyat programme for the Senadin constituency, with Miri City Council (MCC) as the implementing agency.
Lee stressed that the project is crucial in addressing traffic congestion issues at the two schools, especially during peak hours when students arrive and leave.
“In Senadin, there are two large schools, SMK Pujut with about 2,500 students, and SK Senadin with 1,200 students, making a total of more than 3,700 students.
“Therefore, the new parking and access roads are much needed to reduce congestion, especially when parents drop off and pick up their children,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to MCC and the contractor for closely monitoring the project’s progress to ensure it remains on track.
The project is expected to be fully completed by the end of February or early March 2026, benefiting the school community and residents in the surrounding area.
