MIRI: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) officially handed over the accommodation and hospitality services of Niah National Park to Sutera Sanctuary Lodges (SSL), marking a new chapter in the management of one of Sarawak’s most iconic natural treasures.

The handover follows the concession agreement signed on May 21 this year and signifies SSL’s assumption of operational responsibilities, while SFC will continue to act as the conservation and regulatory authority.

SFC general manager Abang Arabi Abang Aimran said SSL is expected to deliver high standards in visitor services while adhering strictly to conservation rules and guidelines.

“SFC entrusts SSL to adhere fully to the park’s regulations, uphold transparency in reporting, and deliver high-quality visitor services befitting Niah’s status as a Unesco World Heritage Site,” he said during the ceremony held at the national park here today.

Abang Arabi expressed appreciation to both teams for their dedication in preparing for the handover since May, noting that the partnership between SFC and SSL goes beyond a transfer of duties.

“This occasion is not merely a transfer of responsibilities. It represents the start of a meaningful and long-term partnership — one grounded in trust, cooperation, and shared objectives.”

He added that SFC would continue to provide oversight and guidance while entrusting SSL to enhance visitor experiences at the park.

The handover ceremony consisted of the signing of the handover notes and keys, formalising SSL’s assumption of responsibilities for accommodation and hospitality services, along with a symbolic exchange of mementos to strengthen the partnership between SFC and SSL.

SFC remains the custodian of Niah National Park. Enforcement, protection, conservation, and entrance fee collection continue to be managed by SFC.
