KUCHING: It is better and wiser for Malaya-based parties to focus on solving their own problems within their traditional territories instead of expending precious scarce resources to stretch their areas of influence elsewhere.

A political analyst, Datuk Peter Minos, who feels strongly about this, noticed that both sides — those in government and the opposition — have big long-standing problems and seem to have no end.

“Let them solve and heal their political problems their way without afflicting us in Sarawak,” he said in a statement today.

Malaya-based parties including Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) do not understand the hopes and aspirations of Sarawakians, he opined.

Hence, they also do not understand the ways, cultures, fears and concerns of Sarawakians, he argued.

He observed that Malaya-based parties that are already in Sarawak such as Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) had brought in Malayan political cultures, which Sarawakians find different and even alien.

“Their merciless ‘hit and attack’ culture is difficult to accept and tolerate,” he said.

He noted that it is an almost overwhelming opinion in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and the state as a whole that no State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat should be allocated to any Malaya-based party.

“GPS intends to contest in all the 82 state seats. It looks like GPS is very firm on this because it forms the ruling government and because Sarawakians want it that way,” said Minos.

He stressed that Sarawak could not afford to allow anyone or any group from outside the state to destabilise the long-established and long-cherished racial and religious harmony and understanding in Sarawak.

“This is one culture and heritage that Sarawakians must do everything to forever defend and nurture,” he said.
