KUCHING: A 35-year-old man was fined RM2,000 in default six months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today (June 19) for damaging his mother’s property.

Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali imposed the fine on Ong Kang Tai after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

Section 427 of the Penal Code provides for imprisonment of between one and five years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Ong was charged with committing mischief by damaging a staircase side mirror and a flower pot belonging to his 72-year-old mother at about 7:00 am on June 18 at a house near Jalan Stutong here.

According to the facts of the case, his mother discovered that a side mirror located on the staircase of the second floor of the house and a flower pot belonging to her had been damaged.

The court heard that the damage caused losses amounting to approximately RM500.
