SARIKEI: The Sarawak Government is targeting 30 per cent of the state’s workforce to comprise highly skilled workers as a strategic move to strengthen economic competitiveness and create future job opportunities.

Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, said the need for a highly skilled workforce is crucial, particularly in high-value economic sectors.

“The most valuable investment for a state lies not only in physical development, but also in developing the minds, skills and identity of our youth so that they can become drivers of the economy and future leaders,” he said when officiating the ‘Randau Akademi Dalam Industri’ (ADI) programme at Dewan Suarah Sarikei recently.

According to him, the state government aims to produce about 500,000 skilled workers, especially in the fields of renewable energy, aerospace, digital economy and high-technology manufacturing.

He said these sectors not only offer better-quality job opportunities but are also capable of increasing income levels and improving the overall quality of life of Sarawakians.

In this regard, Len urged Sarawakian youths to fully utilise the various educational initiatives provided by the state government to enhance their skills and build a more secure future.

“Today’s generation has more educational opportunities compared to before.

“They also no longer face constraints in pursuing higher education as the state government provides free education at Sarawak-owned higher learning institutions,” he added.

He said that these educational facilities represent the government’s long-term investment to ensure Sarawak’s younger generation possesses the knowledge, skills and high competitiveness needed to face future economic challenges.
