KUCHING: Strengthening the Scout movement in Sarawak remains crucial in shaping a disciplined, resilient and morally upright younger generation, said Sarawak Scout Council’s President, Tan Sri Datuk Seri William Mawan Ikom.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Deputy President, Juma’at Ibrahim, during an Aidilfitri gathering at the Scout Headquarters here on Friday, he said scouting is not merely an activity but a responsibility in building the future of the youth.
He noted that the Malaysian Scouts Association Sarawak Branch plays a significant role not just as an organisation, but as a movement with a mission to nurture capable and principled young leaders.
“Through structured training schemes, we have produced youths who are not only skilled but also confident and equipped with strong leadership qualities – a valuable long-term investment for Sarawak and the nation,” he said.
At the same time, he stressed that a strong scout movement contributes to the development of a harmonious, supportive and trust-based society.
Earlier, the event brought together members of the Sarawak Scout Council, commissioners, scout leaders, scouts, as well as representatives from various government agencies and youth organisations in a warm and blessed atmosphere.
Mawan also highlighted the values of Aidilfitri as a symbol of forgiveness, purification of the heart, unity and the strengthening of bonds, urging attendees to reflect on its true meaning beyond tradition.
He expressed appreciation to the organising committee, led by Dayang Suhaila Awang Suhaili, for their commitment and volunteerism in ensuring the success of the event.
He called on all parties to continue strengthening the scout movement in Sarawak, empowering the younger generation and building a brighter and more competitive future.
