SIBU: Sarawak’s strong unity under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is powering rapid gains in development, the economy and sports, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the strong relationship among GPS component parties has enabled Sarawak to move faster as a stable, prosperous region that is increasingly respected at the national level.

He added Sarawak’s progress today can be seen not only in economic growth but also in sports achievements, including the success of Kuching City FC and the Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

“Kuching City FC has now successfully advanced to the final of the Malaysia League and will face Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), while in the last SUKMA, we emerged as overall champions and I hope we will become champions again in Selangor.

“This is our current position. These achievements prove that Sarawak’s development covers multiple sectors, not only growing in the economic sector but also advancing in sports,” he said at the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Triennial General Assembly 2026 (TGA 2026) at Kingwood Hotel here today.

He said all these achievements would not have been possible without strong support from all GPS component parties, including Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the PDP, the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP).

“I am confident because GPS is behind me. I am confident because the people are with me. Through GPS, PDP, SUPP, PRS and of course PBB, we move as one team.

“If we are divided and keep looking back, how can we move forward? If we look too much to the past, we will not see what lies ahead,” he said.

He also said that there are certain parties who are jealous of Sarawak’s current success and prosperity.

“Today, Sarawak is beautiful, prosperous, successful and its economy is doing well. Of course, there are those who are jealous. If they want to disrupt Sarawak, the easiest way is to divide the people so that we fight among ourselves and fail to manage the state’s economy.

“However, if we remain united as we are today, they will not be able to break us because for us, Sarawak comes first,” he stressed.

He said that the state government will continue to practise tolerance to ensure unity among the people remains strong through policies of economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental well-being.
