BINTULU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) will continue to play its role as a key pillar in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), especially in championing the rights of the people and ensuring balanced development across the state.

SUPP Bintulu Branch Chairman and Tanjong Batu Assemblyman, Johnny Pang Leong Ming, said the party remains committed to being the voice of the people and a strategic partner to the leadership of the Sarawak Premier in implementing the state’s development agenda.

“As a core party within GPS, SUPP consistently supports the policies outlined by the Sarawak Premier, particularly in empowering the digital economy, expanding rural development, and defending Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he said.

He said this during the flag-raising ceremony in conjunction with the 66th anniversary of SUPP and the 63rd anniversary of the Bintulu Branch, held on Wednesday.

He added that SUPP is not merely a political component in GPS but serves as a crucial bridge between the people and the government in voicing grassroots issues and needs.

“This party was born in times of hardship – no resources, no privileges.

“Only will, confidence and determination to serve the people of Sarawak. This is the spirit we must uphold,” he stressed.

Pang also reminded SUPP Bintulu Branch members that the success and progress achieved today are the result of sacrifices made by past leaders who worked without expecting rewards, simply to see Sarawak advance and prosper.

“Power is not something to be proud of, but a trust that must be fulfilled.

“SUPP does not exist to reap rewards, but to serve and contribute to Sarawak’s fair and comprehensive development,” he added.

He also urged all party members, especially in Bintulu, to remain united and prioritise the spirit of solidarity to ensure SUPP stays relevant in fighting for the people’s issues.

“Our strength lies not in individuals but in our collective spirit.

“SUPP Bintulu Branch will continue to stand firmly with the people, voicing their needs and championing inclusive development,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pang also reiterated the message of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg that every Sarawakian has a place and a right in the state’s development.

“We are all children of Sarawak. No one will be left behind,” he stated.
