SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth is gravely concerned by recent allegations of sexual misconduct involving a teacher.
It is taking these allegations, the reports of which have been confirmed by the Sarawak Education Department, with utmost seriousness as it involves the safety, welfare and trust of students under the care of the education system.
“Schools must always remain a safe environment where students can learn and develop without fear of abuse, exploitation or misconduct.
“We therefore call upon the Ministry of Education and the police to conduct a thorough, transparent and swift investigation into the case,” said SUPP Youth Chief, Kevin Lau Kor Jie, said in a statement today (June 13).
“Should the allegations be proven true, firm and appropriate action must be taken against the individual concerned in accordance with the law,” he added.
At the same time, Lau urged the relevant agencies, including the Sarawak Welfare Department, to provide the students concerned with the necessary protection, counselling and support throughout the ongoing investigation.
The well-being of the students, he stressed, must remain the highest priority, and every effort should be made to safeguard their privacy and dignity.
He said SUPP Youth stands firmly against all forms of sexual misconduct and abuse involving children and students.
“We believe that every child deserves a safe learning environment, and we will continue to support efforts to strengthen protection mechanisms within our schools and educational institutions,” Lau added.
