KUCHING: The Pustaka Negeri Sarawak in Miri is set to host an intellectual discourse on the enduring significance of traditional storytelling, with a special talk titled ‘Folktales: Moral Values and Hidden Lessons’.
The event, part of the institution’s ongoing ‘Sarawakiana Talk Series’, will take place on April 15 from 2 pm to 5 pm at the library’s auditorium.
The series serves as a platform for discussing cultural heritage and societal development issues pertinent to Sarawak.
Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) lecturer, Dr Patricia Ganing, will deliver the keynote address on how traditional folktales function as vehicles for moral instruction and explore strategies for preserving this cultural heritage amid globalisation.
According to Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri officer, Davidsal Jimmy Berayen, the initiative reflects the library’s commitment to maintaining the relevance of traditional heritage in contemporary society.
“This programme not only highlights the moral values embedded in folktales but also strengthens community identity and character,” he stated.
The talk also aims to foster critical thinking and promote interest in literature among attendees.
Members of the public interested in attending can register by scanning the QR code available on promotional materials or through the online form at https://forms.gle/1RrNGN6SjSEqxAgx6.
