KUCHING: Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) is inviting applications for its Unreal Engine for Games Training Programme 2026, which aims to equip Sarawakian creatives with advanced skills in game development and interactive design.

The five-day programme to be held from Aug 10-14 at the TEGAS Digital Village (TDV) here is organised in collaboration with EFXCO Academy, a newly accredited Unreal Authorised Training Centre for 2026.

A total of 20 participants will be selected for the intensive training, which will focus on game development, rapid prototyping and real-time interactive technology using Unreal Engine 5.

TEGAS chairman and Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, said the programme reflects the agency’s commitment to driving innovation and talent development within Sarawak’s creative industry.

“By nurturing advanced Unreal Engine skills that align with global standards, we are not only preparing local talent for high-income technical roles but also empowering them to become future job creators capable of establishing local studios and developing native intellectual property,” he said in a statement on Monday.

He added that TDV continues to position itself as a regional hub for interactive technology training by providing local creatives with practical pathways into the global gaming industry.

Participants will receive hands-on training in areas such as interactive level design, landscape development, visual effects, artificial intelligence patrol systems, user interface design and audio detection using Unreal Engine 5.

The programme will culminate in the development of an original playable 3D horror game, allowing participants to gain practical experience in game creation, testing and deployment.

EFXCO Academy chief executive officer Hussin Khan said the collaboration with TEGAS would enable world-class training delivery here following the academy’s recognition as an Unreal Authorised Training Centre.

“Game mechanics and real-time storytelling are critical components of today’s immersive digital industries.

“This programme allows participants to bring complex ideas to life through Blueprint visual scripting without requiring coding knowledge,” he said.

Enrolment priority will be given to individuals from underrepresented backgrounds and those facing financial challenges.

Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive a certificate of attendance endorsed by the global Unreal Engine community.
