MIRI: Police have arrested three local men suspected of trespassing into the compound of a house in Tudan Phase 3, Lutong, here after they were caught by the homeowner late at night.
The incident occurred at about 9.30 pm on May 24 when the house owner reportedly spotted the three men inside the property compound before shouting for help, causing the suspects to flee.
In their haste to escape, the men allegedly abandoned three sling bags containing identity cards, along with two bicycles, which were later seized by police to assist investigations.
Following intelligence gathering and subsequent police operations, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Miri district police headquarters detained the three suspects, aged between 21 and 31, in Kampung Tudan on May 25.
Police said the suspects have been remanded for four days until May 30 to facilitate investigations under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.
The offence carries a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both, upon conviction.
Police also thanked members of the public for promptly reporting the incident and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies in combating crime.
