KUCHING: The Sarawak Initiatives (TSI) has collaborated with Lions Club Kuching North (LCKN) in a welfare project.

TSI, in a statement here on Thursday, said the ‘Adopt a Student’ project saw three secondary school students adopted in its efforts to champion education for the underprivileged.

Previously in February 2021, three students namely Albert Affleck Thomas and Brenda Kueh who were attending SMK Kuching Town No.1 and Aloysius Lim Francis (SMK St Thomas), had each received monetary aid of RM2,500 under the programme.

TSI chairman Datuk John Tenewi, LCKN committee member Connie Yeo and LCKN secretary alongside the students have seen an outstanding result through the “Adopt a Student” project.

Both NGOs had gained positive feedback from the students, the statement said.

The students expressed their gratitude to both NGOS as they were able to thrive in their studies, at the same time lifting their financial burdens from the aid received.

The initiative from both NGOs was seen as a means to assist students living in the low-income bracket to pay for their schooling expenses.

“The principals of the individual schools select possible beneficiaries. Selected students will be placed under the project following the selection process by both organisations,” it added.
