The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts is developing various tourism packages riding on the Sarawak Delta UNESCO Global Geopark (SDUGGp).
Its Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Tourism Malaysia reported that the Sarawak Delta Geopark Volume 2 which was launched in November last year has generated RM2.38 million in sales until the first quarter of 2026.
He said the ministry will continue to capitalise on the SDUGGp recognition to place Sarawak on the global map as a sustainable tourism destination.
“Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) in collaboration with Sabah Tourism Board have launched the initiative ‘Exploring the Wonders of Malaysia Borneo Geoparks’ during the World Travel Market (WTM) London in November last year.

“The state will continue to capitalise on its strength in eco-tourism with the focus on local community participation. Through collaboration with Sarawak Forestry Collaboration (SFC), my minister continues to market our national parks, especially the two UNESCO World Heritage sites namely Niah National Park and Gunung Mulu National Park,” he said.
He said this in his ministerial winding up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today (May 19).
In line with the Sarawak Digital Economy Agenda, Abdul Karim said Sarawak’s tourism sector leverages technological advancements to enhance the overall tourist experience while improving destination management and sustainability.
He said the state is expanding internet connectivity across both urban and rural areas including tourism destinations and attractions areas.
“The improved internet connectivity will facilitate tourism operators, particularly homestay operators, to adopt digital platforms and smart tourism services in a more effective way,” he said.
Abdul Karim also said that STB is collaborating with Pacific Travel Association (PATA) to enhance the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) through digital skills training for tourism entrepreneurs.
“This programme helps local tourism businesses adopt AI tools, improve digital marketing capabilities, strengthen destination resilience and enhance service delivery for international visitors,” he added.
