KUCHING: A Toyota Vellfire multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) was partially damaged in a suspected arson attack at Lorong Stapok Selatan 7 here early this morning (May 23).
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Batu Lintang station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 4.58 am.
“The fire involved the rear section of the vehicle and had been extinguished before firefighters arrived at the scene,” the spokesperson said.
The incident was also captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV), which showed an object that is believed to have been thrown towards the vehicle moments before the fire broke out.
Firefighters used a hose reel to fully extinguish the remaining flames.
The fire damaged about 10 per cent of the vehicle and no injuries were reported.
The case has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
