LIMBANG: The Sarawak government is committed to developing Limbang’s tourism potential in phases, as part of its vision to establish the district as a new tourism hub in northern Sarawak.

Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said several projects have already been identified and announced as initial steps toward comprehensive tourism development in the area.

Among these, he said, are the construction of a RM5 million boat ramp at the end of the Limbang Waterfront, expected to be completed in time for the 2026 Limbang Festival, and the development of a new RM50 million Limbang District Council office to replace the existing facility at Plaza Limbang.

“The Limbang District Council has identified 18 potential tourism sites, including Santaba Jetty, Meritam Mud Volcanoes, Taman Tasik Mas, and Limbang Recreational Field.

“All of these locations will be developed in phases over the next five to 10 years,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Santaba Jetty Festival 2025 held at Kampung Patiambun recently.

He also highlighted that within the next five years, three major infrastructure projects — the Trans Borneo Highway, the Coastal Highway, and the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road — are expected to be fully completed.

“These will provide residents of Limbang with improved access routes that no longer rely on travel through Brunei,” he added.

The two-day Santaba Jetty Festival 2025, featured a range of vibrant activities including cultural performances, cooking competitions, fishing contests, tug-of-war, and a parade of decorated boats.

One of the main attractions was the River Cruise along the Santaba River, offering visitors the chance to experience the region’s natural beauty, cruise through unique mangrove forests, and observe the rich ecosystem that forms part of Limbang’s natural heritage.
