KUCHING: Two local men were arrested after allegedly stealing a grass-cutting machine and attempting to flee from police in the early hours of Thursday (May 28).

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspects, aged 25 and 28, were detained after a chase along Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Sungai Apong at about 3 am.

He said police came across the two men behaving suspiciously by the roadside during a routine crime prevention patrol.

“When approached, both suspects fled, triggering a chase before they were successfully apprehended,” he said.

Police also seized a grass-cutting machine, a motorcycle and a key believed to be linked to the incident.

Initial investigations found that the grass-cutting machine was believed to have been stolen from an unlocked storeroom at a house along Jalan Chawan here.

Urine screening tests found both suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Further checks also revealed that both men have previous criminal and drug-related records.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties.
