KOTA SAMARAHAN: Unity rooted in mutual respect rather than uniformity is essential to building a stronger and more effective Fire and Rescue Department, says Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Jambri Masran.
“We do not need to be the same to work together.
“Our diversity is what strengthens us and enables us to better serve the people,” he said when speaking at the department’s July monthly assembly held at the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Zone 2 here today (Jul 20).
He said the same spirit should be reflected across the department’s various functions, from operations and fire investigation to fire safety, administration, logistics, engineering and training, as every role contributes towards the shared mission of protecting lives and property.
He also reminded all Bomba Sarawak personnel to maintain a high level of operational readiness by ensuring fire stations, vehicles, equipment and personnel remain prepared to respond to emergencies at all times.
Jambri urged officers and firefighters to uphold integrity, professionalism and discipline while continuously strengthening their knowledge and skills through ongoing training under the Fire Station Task System (STB).
Beyond the department, he called on communities to play a more active role in public safety through the Teman Pili Bomba initiative, which encourages volunteers to help monitor fire hydrants in their neighbourhoods.
He said participants help ensure fire hydrants remain accessible, free from obstructions and vandalism, while promptly reporting damage or leaks to the department for immediate action.
“The initiative reflects Bomba’s Whole of Society Approach to disaster management by strengthening community preparedness and promoting shared responsibility in safeguarding public safety,” he said.
