SIBU: About 10,000 people took part in the Unity Walk today, showcasing Sarawak’s spirit of unity through its rich diversity of races, religions and cultures.

Participants began arriving as early as 6 am before embarking on the 4.3-kilometre walk around Sibu town, symbolising togetherness and celebrating the diversity that has long been one of Sarawak’s greatest strengths and defining characteristics.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, arrived at about 6.50 am to flag off the participants.

After the flag-off ceremony, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah together with other distinguished guests toured the Sarawak Day 2026 exhibition held at the grounds of Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang.

The Unity Walk is among the key programmes organised in conjunction with the Sarawak Day 2026 celebration to foster unity, harmony and togetherness among Sarawakians from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

The route began at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang before passing through Jalan Awang Ramli Amit and Jalan Kampung Datu, and returning to the starting point.

The Sarawak Day 2026 celebration in Sibu will culminate tonight with the Sarawak Day Assembly, which will be attended by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg followed by the ‘Konsert Rakyat’.
