SIBU: Vocational education not only equips students with academic knowledge but also provides them with practical skills that are highly relevant and sought after in today’s workforce.

As such events such as the 2026 Sarawak Zone Vocational College (KV Skills) Competition are important as they recognise the achievements of students in the field of skills and vocational education.

“I pray that the excellence achieved in the competition will serve as a stepping stone for our students to continue striving for greater success in higher education and beyond, in line with the government’s aspirations through the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) policy to produce a skilled and competent workforce,” said Irene Wong, Special Assistant to Sibu MP, Oscar Ling.

She made these remarks at the closing and prize-giving ceremony of the competition here on Friday (June 12).

Six vocational Colleges, namely, KV Sibu, KV Betong, KV Matang, KV Kuching, KV Bintulu and KV Miri participated in the competition.

Wong, who represented Ling, added that the competition is not merely a platform to test technical abilities, but also an avenue to develop self-confidence, teamwork, discipline, and creativity among students.

“The skills acquired today are valuable assets that will help meet the future needs of industry and contribute to the nation’s development.”

The skills possessed by these students today, she noted, are essential assets that will play a significant role in supporting industrial growth and national development in the years to come.
