KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat has allocated RM30,000 under the Rural Small Projects (MRP) to support the management and repair of the Wisma Veteran of the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM) Kapit branch.

Jamit, who serves as Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law and Native Customs), said Warriors’ Day served as an important platform to instil patriotism, particularly among the younger generation.

He recalled the bravery of Warrant Officer II Lenggu Cina from Kapit, who fell in battle at Batu Babi, Song, while fighting communist insurgents, describing him as a hero whose courage should be remembered.

“Peace and development enjoyed today would not have been possible without the sacrifices of our national heroes. We must honour them by nurturing patriotic values in every Malaysian,” he said when officiating at the Kapit-level Warriors’ Day 2025 celebration at Tugu Bujang Berani, Kapit Waterfront yesterday (Aug 24).

The event, organised by PVATM Kapit branch, gathered about 250 participants including 180 veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), alongside widows and families of fallen heroes.

Meanwhile, Special Administrative Officer of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Lt Gen (Rtd) Datuk Stephen Mundaw said the legacy of the Sarawak Rangers and Iban Trackers stood as a symbol of courage that Sarawakians should take pride in.

“We can emulate their discipline and determination to strengthen ourselves, especially the younger generation, in facing future challenges,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to the Department of Veterans Affairs (JHEV) Sarawak and PVATM Kapit branch for their dedication in safeguarding the welfare of veterans in the division.

The ceremony began with the singing of Negaraku, Ibu Pertiwiku and Perajurit Tanah Air. The atmosphere then turned solemn as participants observed a moment of silence, accompanied by the sounding of the ‘Last Post’, in honour of fallen heroes.

As a mark of remembrance, wreaths were laid at Tugu Bujang Berani to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for the nation’s peace.
