SERIAN: The raw water level at the Slabi Water Treatment Plant intake is approaching a critical stage following the prolonged dry spell, raising the possibility of water supply disruptions across the area.
The Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) said water production capacity would be reduced, with the plant operating at minimum capacity if the situation persists and there is no rainfall.
The possible disruption, which takes effect today (Aug 15) until further notice, involves the entire Serian district, including the Balai Ringin sub-district, as well as Tebedu and Gedong.
“Water supply disruptions may occur as the raw water level at the Slabi Water Treatment Plant intake is currently approaching a critical level following the prolonged dry season.
“Water production capacity will be reduced and the plant will operate at minimum capacity if the situation continues and there is still no rainfall,” it said in a notice today.
JBALB advised consumers in the affected areas to store sufficient water as a precaution and to use water sparingly.
Consumers were also urged to avoid unnecessary water wastage throughout the disruption period.
JBALB said efforts would be made to resolve any disruption as soon as possible, with water supply to be restored gradually in affected areas once conditions improve.
