BALAI RINGIN: A youth centre offering vocational, technical and digital programmes is planned beside the completed RM5-million Balai Ringin mini stadium.
Balai Ringin assemblyman, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, said the proposed facility would form the second phase of development at the stadium site.
He said the site was large enough to accommodate further facilities, including the youth centre.
“The youth centre will allow us to organise various vocational, technical, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
“We can also bring TEGAS programmes here and encourage more youths to participate in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and robotics activities,” he said.
He said this after officiating at a ceremony marking the completion of the Jalan Melikin upgrading project under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) at Kampung Danau Keranggas Community Hall here today.
Snowdan, who is also a Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak’s (TEGAS) board member, said a TEGAS-sponsored robotics centre had already been established at SK Pantu.
He said the centre was equipped with robotics equipment funded by TEGAS and was accessible to pupils from surrounding primary schools.
“This will allow pupils to visit SK Pantu and learn how to use the robotics equipment provided there,” he added.
Snowdan also proposed establishing a digital hub at SMK Balai Ringin by converting an available room at the school.
He said he would discuss the proposal with the school principal, with the hub intended to host digital programmes benefiting its nearly 2,000 students.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts said the initiatives were part of a broader master plan for the constituency.
He said Balai Ringin would focus on education and sports development, while Pantu would concentrate on agriculture and livestock activities.
