SIBU: An underage boy’s joyride through town in his father’s car has sparked concern among the public after a video depicting him driving went viral on social media.

In the 30-second video clip, a boy, believed to be 12 years old, was seen driving his father’s car solo by himself.

A concerned man stopped the boy in front of a bank and asked him where his parents were, but the boy calmly replied that they were at home. When asked if he had a driving license, the boy admitted he did not have any.

The man later warned him that he would report the incident to the police, but the boy nonchalantly drove away.

Meanwhile, another viral video, lasting 27 seconds, showed several individuals confronting the boy and a man believed to be his father. It was revealed that the boy often took his father’s car key for a drive.

The father scolded the boy and warned that the police would arrest him. Unfazed, the boy responded, “There are no police here, I just want to drive.”

Since being posted online, the videos have collectively garnered 196,000 views; 1,604 likes; 653 comments; and 1,007 shares, igniting a mix of concern and debate among viewers.

When contacted for updates, Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed that the police were investigating the case.

In Malaysia, an individual can obtain their driver’s license at the age of 16. That said, it is completely illegal for children to be driving a car, especially on their own while on the road.
