KUCHING: A three-day narcotics operation in the district has landed 21 local suspects in custody, with various drugs worth an estimated RM20,850 seized.

The suspects were arrested during ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ conducted by the district police headquarters (IPD) from Aug 25 to 27.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation targeted drug trafficking and abuse, with police making arrests involving various offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Of the 21 suspects, one was held under Section 39B, one under Section 39A(2), another under Section 39A(1), while two were arrested under Section 12(2).

“The remaining 16 suspects were detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Act for abusing drugs.

“Police also seized 3,413g of cannabis, 6.57g of methamphetamine and 55ml of liquid suspected to be cannabis.

“The total value of the seized drugs was estimated at RM20,850,” he said.

Alexson cited the arrests and seizures were the result of continuous intelligence-gathering and cooperation from the public.

Police would not compromise with anyone involved in drug trafficking as possessing, trafficking or protecting drug-related activities is a serious offence under the law.
