PADAWAN: Thirty-one underprivileged recipients in the Mambong constituency are set to benefit from the Sarawak Poor Housing Improvement Programme (PPRMS), which began this month and is expected to be completed by November 2025.

Deputy Minister for Transport (Aviation and Roads), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, said the initiative reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of rural communities by providing homes that are safer, more comfortable, and better organised.

He said the project’s implementation also involves a transparent contractor selection process through a ballot system to ensure fairness and accountability.

“This programme continues the government’s ongoing efforts to uplift the people’s well-being and ensure that no one is left behind in accessing improved basic amenities,” he said during a brief speech before the ballot session at the Mambong Service Centre today.

Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong Assemblyman, stressed that contractors must comply with the guidelines and procedures set by the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU).

The scope of work for each house includes a range of upgrades such as replacing roofs and walls, constructing new kitchens and toilets, rewiring, improving floors and staircases, and applying new paint both inside and outside the house.

Additional works such as erosion control barriers, walkways, and extended communal spaces (ruai) will also be carried out to enhance the safety and comfort of the residents.

The PPRMS aims to ensure that rural families live in conducive and secure environments while continuing the State’s mission to strengthen the socio-economic development of Sarawak’s rural areas.
